Governor Willie Obiano has disclosed that two commercial test-run flights will land at the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri, on Friday, April 30, 2021.

Governor Obiano disclosed this when he led members of Anambra State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, members of the clergy including the Catholic Bishop of Ado Ekiti Diocese, Most Reverend Felix Femi Ajakaye, Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, and Heads of communities in the state to assess  level of work  at the airport.

Correspondent, Daniel Ezeigwe reports that the airport has a three-point-seven kilometer runway, with two racers of one kilometer each attached on either sides of the runway, making it the longest in Subsaharan Africa.

While the control tower, water supply source, fire control units, terminal building and parking lots are nearing completion, the apron and taxi ways are hundred percent completed and waiting to be marked while ninety percent of the airport fencing is completed.

According to Governor Obiano, the two test-run flights would land simultaneously on either sides of airport runway which has already been completed and certified by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA earlier week.

The Governor, who was at the site alongside his wife, Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, also stated that the project is designed to beat global aviation expectations, stating that every necessary task has been completed to ensure that the scheduled test-run is conducted successfully.

In their separate remarks, Awgbu, Anambra State-born Mayor of Brent, London, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi and Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra State-born Nigeria Ambassador to Burundi, Chief Elijah Onyeagba both of whom also joined in the inspection tour, described the airport as a similar spectacular sight with what is obtained in major cities across the developed world, noting that Governor Obiano has created a unique socio-economic base that will outlive generations.

Speaking before praying over the airport, Reverend Father Mbaka said that with the airport project, Governor Obiano has earned applause from both friends and foes, describing him as a God’s blessing to Anambra State.

Earlier, the Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor who conducted the governor and the visitors around the airport, said that the project design is comparatively the best in Nigeria, with every unit of the project exceeding most targets.

The traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka, said that with the airport project, Governor Obiano has placed the town on global development radar.
