Students that emerged winners at the Maiden Essay competition, organized by the Seat Of Wisdom Library, Abatete and Abatete Digest Magazine, have been rewarded with different cash prizes and medals.

Speaking during the Award Presentation held at the Library compound, Reverend Father Sylvester Nnaso, who’s the Chief Executive Officer, of the  Seat Of Wisdom Library, explained  that the goal of the essay competition is to encourage students to read  beyond their school curriculum while also taking advantage of the community library for  their benefit.

He also explained that the competition will be continuous, with different academic stimulation exercises  each year and revealed that the inspiration to build the library was born during his study sojourn in America and to ensure that students have access to learning materials not available in his days, including organising practical computer learning lessons in conjunction with partners in America and host of other skill learning approaches.

In the essay competition that involved three schools within Abatete and fifty students, Amaechi Ugochi of Dominican Sisters College, emerged the overall winner while Ezeiruoma Faustina of same school came second and Nzekwu Mmesoma of Notre Dame High School came third.

They were presented with medals including cash gift of twenty five thousand Naira, fifteen thousand Naira and ten thousand Naira respectively.

In his remark Mr. Ifeanyi Onyekwelu, who’s the Managing Editor of Abatete Digest Magazine noted that the competition was to harness the intellectual capacity of students, while also helping them discover themselves and  expressed dismay at the lack of male students winners in the competition and called for support to increase the scope of the academic event.

In an interview, the winning students; Miss Amaechi and Miss Ezeiruoma  expressed happiness for coming tops during the competition, appreciating the organizers for the initiative while  urging  students to be serious with their studies.
