The Anambra Small Business Agency, ASBA, with support from the World Bank, has completed training for its staff and enumerators drawn from the three senatorial zones of Anambra State, on the implementation of COVID-19 Action Recovery Economic Stimulus, CARES.
The training, which took place in Awka, was facilitated by Nissi Computer Systems and was aimed at establishing a structure and efficient hub for micro, small and medium scale enterprises, to enhance sustainable economic growth in the state.
Speaking at closing stage of the training, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASBA, Sir Clement Chukwuka, said that as a result of COVID-19 hit on the private sector, the federal government in collaboration with the World Bank thought it necessary to raise fund to salvage the economic downturn of the pandemic.
Sir Clement also commended the Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano for his support in seeing that micro, small and medium enterprises benefit from every fund meant for them, noting that the World Bank had also subsidized loans for successfully verified beneficiaries by forty percent and urged the trainees to utilize the opportunity.
In their various remarks, the Chairman Civil Society Networks in Anambra State, Prince Chris Azor and the Executive Director of ASBA, Mr Emeka Ezegbu commended the initiative, adding that Anambra State has always maintained high level of integrity and transparency when it comes to training and funds disbursement.
In a lecture, the Director of NISSI Innovative Realities, Mr Ikeomu Mark-Frolic, stated that the training would help participants to strengthen their business skills so they could boost productivity and income.
Some participants, including Arinze Omenwa and Chinenye Ezeukwu, described the training as worthwhile, adding that it equipped them with right knowledge to effectively manage their businesses and as well to become employers of labour.
