Anambra State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says it has seized over three hundred kilograms of different kinds of drugs while thirty-five persons have being investigated and charged to court for various drug offenses in the first quarter of the year.
The Commander of the Agency, Assistant Commandant General, Mohammed Idris disclosed this during the seventh edition of the NDLEA/Lady Victoria Chiro Onyido quiz competition for all secondary schools in the state.
Correspondent, Njideka Okoye reports that students from Nnewi, Otuocha, Aguata, Onitsha, Ogidi and Awka Education Zones among others participated at the Intra zonal level of the competition held at the Professor Kenneth Dike E- Library Awka.
Speaking at the event , Mr. Idris, who stated that the essence of the competition was to bring to the minds of students the dangers of drug abuse, advised them to be conscious of whatever that can mar their academic ambition.
He urged them to desist from taking substances to avert sleep while reading to avoid its negative effects on them.
In her address, the Director and State Coordinator, Guidance and Counseling Services, Post Primary Schools Service Commission Awka, Mrs. Eucharia Illikah reminded them that engaging in drug abuse and other social vices can mar the achievement of their dreams urging them to be focused in their studies, finish well and become meaningful members of the society.
On her part, the Director, Library Services, Dr. Nkechi Udeze charged them to cultivate reading culture to nip in the bud examination malpractice and sorting.
