Farmers in parts of Anambra state have expressed worry over insufficient rainfall, as they fear that it will have adverse effect on their crops.
Speaking to ABS Correspondent Miriam Chukwuma at Ossamala, Ogbaru Council area, a farmer Chief Francis Emezina who complained insufficient rainfall to water the soil for cultivation said a lot has changed in weather condition, stressing that before now, farmers were already concluding the cultivation of certain crops, but the reverse is the case this season as some farmers are still battling to plant the seasonal crops.
Chief Emezina lamented the high cost of seedlings which he said are no longer at the reach of farmers while appealing for government subsidization of farm crops to aid the farmers in purchasing seedlings.
On her part, another farmer from Ogbaru, Mrs Lucy Oba, appealed to the youths to show interest in farming which she said is a safe way of making ends meet instead of engaging in internet frauds that can easily expose them to danger and insecurity as well as drag their family name to the mud.
Mrs Oba who commended Governor Obiano for making farming attractive, called on him to make it more interesting for the youths by providing more mechanized farm implements to the rural communities, saying that with Scientific and financial support youths will embrace agriculture as means of livelihood.
