Anambra State COVID-19 Action Team has commenced the administration of the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination on residents of Onitsha North Council Area.
The exercise which is expected to last for one Month took place at Imeobi Ogboza Village Onitsha.
Correspondent, Emengini Osadebe, who covered the immunization, reports that there was impressive turnout of residents.
Speaking to the ABS, one of the well-being Ambassadors, Imeobi Onitsha, Mr Chuma Aduba, disclosed that the Obi of Onitsha Igwe Alfred Achebe in collaboration with Onitsha Ado COVID-19 Response Team has taken it upon themselves to acquire the vaccine from the State Government for the people saying that the vaccine is free of charge and for all living in the council area and called on the entire community to endevour to and be vaccinated as it is very important for their Health.
On her part, the Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer Onitsha North Local Government Area, Mrs Georgina Idah, commended the turnout of residents for the exercise saying that the vaccine is for their own good as it will protect them from the Virus.
The Social Mobilization Officer, Onitsha North Local Government Area, Mrs Augustina Nkwo, who maintained that if all is vaccinated wearing of face mask will cease, saying that the vaccination is a continuous one until seventy-five percent coverage is achieved in the community urging the people to continue to observe the COVID-19 Pandemic protocols.
One of the beneficiaries and a member of Agbalanze Society of Onitsha, Mr Tagbo Mazeli, thanked the State Government and Obi of Onitsha for having the welfare of the people at heart and called on the residents to ensure they are vaccinated.
