Who’s who in the Anglican Communion of Awka Diocese and beyond gathered at Saint Michael and All Angels Church, Nawfia to mark the end of second Session of the twelfth synod of Awka Diocese with a thanksgiving Service.
The Synod which commenced Last Friday had it’s theme as “Expanding Our Ministerial Coast; Implications for the ordained and the laity.
Emmanuel Chigbata reports that the thanksgiving service was officiated by the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, and had in attendance host of clergymen from Awka Diocese and beyond, including Bishops and their wives, Government Officials, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Willie Obiano represented by his Chief of Protocol Mr. Uzuegbuna Okagbue said government will sustain the already established age-long relationship it has with the church.
On his part, Archbishop Ibezim said the synod has enormous spiritual impact that will extend to the entire state and nation, noting that the laity and the ordained must work in unisom in order to expand the kingdom of God.
Earlier in a sermon, the guest preacher and Bishop of Lagos Diocese, Right Reverend Humphrey Olumakaiye, who emphasized on the theme of the Synod charged the congregations to use their natural endowment to propagate the gospel of God.
The Chairman, Awka Diocesan Central Planning Committee, Dr. Emma Ezenwaji, and a member of the Local Organizing Committee, Reverend Victor Nwobi, noted that the positive impact of the evangelism in Nawfia Community will forever remain indelible.
In their various speeches, a Former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Charles Soludo, and the traditional ruler of the Community, Igwe Shedrack Muoguluwa, thanked the Archbishop for the great evangelism he brought to the Community, and described the event as worthwhile.
The Vicar of the hosting church who is also the Archdeacon of Nawfia Archdeaconry, Venerable Ifeanyi Umeh thanked the Archbishop for the opportunity given them.
Cutting of synod cake, special rendition by the choir and thanksgiving made the service a memorable one.
