The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor has condemned in strong terms the communal crisis between Anaku and Omor communities in Ayamelum Council Area.
Right Honourable Olafor made the condemnation when he led the Ayamelum Local Government Leaders of Thought to a courtesy call on the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Christopher Owolabi at the Police Headquarters, Amawbia.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that the speaker regretted that the crisis claimed property of both communities including lives of police officers who were carrying out their duties when the crisis occurred.
He revealed that ever since the ugly incident occurred, Ayamelum leaders of Thought including himself have been meeting with the police and service Chiefs to find a permanent solution to the reoccurring bad events in Ayamelum Local Government Area.
The speaker said the essence of their visit to the Commissioner of police was to console them on the death of the two police officers that died in the communal crisis and to seek their support to restore normalcy to the areas.
On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Mr. Christopher Owolabi explained that the command has brought the crisis to a stop, while youths of the communities are being monitored to ensure that there will be no fallout from the crisis that occurred last Sunday.
On his part, the Traditional Ruler of Omasi, Dr. Benjamin Okeji, expressed satisfaction with the interaction they had with the Commissioner of police and service Chiefs.
In a communiqué issued to journalists by the Ayamelum Leaders of Thought through their Chairman, Chief Tony Chinedu, they condemned the crisis in its entirety, stressing that it will deal decisively with any party found guilty after due investigations.
They also sued for sustainable peace in all the communities in Ayamelum Local Government Area and thanked the security agencies and the service chiefs that came to the aid of the communities.
