The Federal Ministry of Water Resources has certified Anambra East Local Government Area Open Defecation Free, making them the first local government to achieve the feat in the South East Zone.
The Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne, disclosed this while defending the projects executed by the Ministry in 2020 before the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Account.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that Mr. Ezenwanne, attributed the achievement to the efforts of Governor Willie of Obiano who is doing everything possible towards sustainable water supply to the people.
He informed the committee that the Obiano administration has completed Obizi Water Scheme and fixed management structure around it and is now supplying water to ten communities around it.
Mr. Ezenwanne, noted that the implementation of one hundred and fifty water facilities by the state government in underserved communities is yielding the desired result as it contributed to the declaration of Anambra East Council Area as open defecation free by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in March this year, adding that the Ministry is working hard to ensure that all parts of the state attain such feat.
In his remarks, the Chairman, House Committee on Public Account, Sir Somtochukwu Udeze, commended the projects accomplished by the Ministry during the year under review.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Patrick Ugbaja, has commended the Anambra State House of Assembly committee on Basic Education for organizing a meeting with the Ministry of Education and parastatals under it, where they brainstormed on ways to uplift the standard of education in Anambra State.
