The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Disability Matters, Barrister Chuks Ezewuzie has held a practical meeting on government policies, processes and procedures for accessing government programmes with selected leaders and representatives of different clusters of disability community in Anambra state.
Speaking during the meeting, Barrister Ezewuzie said that the State government’s disability inclusive policies have created a new dawn for persons with disabilities in Anambra State and reminded them of the seven point agenda of Governor Willie Obiano for persons with disabilities which are employment, mobility and mobilization, position, opportunity, willpower, education and relationship.
He noted that governor Obiano has touched every aspect of the agenda with laudable achievements.
According to the Special Adviser, governor Obiano has continued to mobilize and position persons with disabilities through subventions to disability organizations and empowerment of entrepreneurs with disabilities.
The legal luminary noted that it is now a matter of right and law for every person with disability in Anambra state to be educated, and that the Governor has made a budgetary provision for scholarship for them, which his office is working with Ministry of Education to ensure full implementation of the scheme in all schools in the State.
Present at the meeting were, the Special Assistant to the governor on Special Sports, Mrs. Esther Nwaodika, her Sign Language Communications counterpart, Mr. Collins Joseph, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Disability Services and Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities in Anambra State, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, the Chairman, National Association of the Blind Anambra state chapter, Comrade Ernest Okamelu, that of Nigeria National Association of the Deaf, Anambra state chapter, Comrade Amobi Nwagwu, staff of Office of the Governor on Disability Matters, among others.
