The need for synergy between the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU and the Local Government Service Commission for the overall development of Anambra State has been stressed.

A delegation of ASATU led by its President, Chief Titus Akpudo, stated this when they paid a courtesy visit to the Anambra State Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Dr Peter Egenti, in Awka.

Queen Anigbogu  reports thatChief Akpudo, listed various areas where Anambra State Association of Town Unions and the Local Government Service Commission can partner in order to impact positively on the lives of Ndi Anambra to include sensitization of the people at the grassroots about the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, employment opportunities, security initiative among others.

He scored Governor Willie Obiano high in bringing government presence to hinterlands in the State through the Community-Choose-your-Project initiative and his Sterling leadership in other areas of the State economy.

Describing ASATU as a spring board through which the government takes its policies and programmes to the grassroots, Chief Akpudo urged to the traditional rulers and Presidents-general of communities to work together for the progress of their domains.

In his remarks, the Chairman Local Government Service Commission, Dr Egenti noted that community leadership is a collective responsibility and demonstrated the Commission’s readiness to partner the leadership of Anambra State Association of Town Unions for sustainable development.

He noted that the local government system has competent and dedicated staff that can help attract more dividends of democracy and take the system to greater heights.

In a vote of thanks, the liaison officer, Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Mr Ikechukwu Okeke, said that the local government service Commission represents equity and justice that Igbos are seeking.

Those present during the visit were the Commissioner Four of the Local Government Commission Mrs Roseline Ezulike, Commissioner Three, Mr.  Ugochukwu Ezeani, Mr Ikechukwu Oforkansi, Vice President three Anambra State Association of Town Unions among others.
