The Provost, Federal College of Education, Technical, Umunze, Dr. Tessy Okoli, has warned fresh students of the College to abstain from cultism and other activities that could truncate their academic careers.
Dr. Okoli gave the warning at the 32nd/10th joint matriculation ceremony for fresh undergraduate of the College, held at the school’s Convocation arena.
Correspondent Theophilus Ukoha was there and reports that the Provost used the occasion to advise the matriculants to face their studies seriously, avoid all forms of immorality, including cultism, examination malpractice, indecency and unruly behaviours, as the College is reputed for academic excellence and good conduct.
She maintained that the College is committed to remaining crime-free, warning that perpetrators of crime, when caught, will face outright expulsion and prosecution by relevant authorities.
Dr. Okoli however noted that quality education remains the watchword of the institution, and reassured that the it’s Management would continue to provide needed facilities and resources for academic excellence to thrive.
In an address, the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Professor Charles Esimone, congratulated the students and reasserted the purpose behind the affiliation between the two institutions.
Professor Esimone, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Frederick Odibo, acknowledged that academic programmes in the College are in tandem with the requirements of the University, saying that the affiliation offers students privilege to study for the degree of the University in academic programmes.
The Chairman of 7th Governing Council of the College, Honourable Sekav Dzua Iyortyom, advised the new students to leverage the opportunity for academic success and urged them to desist from acts that could be detrimental to their future.
In separate interviews, Chikwendu Precious and Chiamaka Sunday both of Chemistry department, thanked the College Management and expressed optimism that they would have a fruitful stay in the institution.
Matriculation vow by all the matriculants formed the highpoint of the event.
