The eight kindred in Ezeokweghi Ezeofor family of Enugwu Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area have performed their 2021 new yam festival.

The festival, which took place at the residence of a notable son of the community and Managing Director of God’s Decision Oil and Gas Limited, Chief Osita Ezechukwu, was attended by eminent personalities from the town including the traditional ruler, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo, the traditional Prime Minister of the town, Chief Kofi Obijiofor and the President General of Nanka Patriotic Union, Chief Paul Chinedu, among others.

The new yam festival gave the eight kindred an opportunity to have a cultural interface and rekindle their age-long fraternal bond.

Speaking during the event, the traditional ruler of Nanka, Igwe Ezeilo, described peace as the surest platform for communal progress and urged every member of the community to take pride in loving one another.

He said that the essence of celebrating the new yam festival was to thank God for His blessings and a successful planting season.

The convener, Chief Ezechukwu in his speech asked Anambra State electorate to see the forthcoming governorship election as very crucial, reminding them of the need to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration exercise to obtain their voter cards that would enable them to participate in the poll.

On his part, Chief Chinedu urged Nanka people to always embark on programs that breed peaceful coexistence as the community has articulated series of activities to help move it forward.

Earlier, the chairman on the occasion, Chief Anagboso Okoli, Mr. Azikiwe Ezeme and a cultural proponent, Chief Michael Aniazoka, thanked those that made the event successful, especially, Chief Ezechukwu, adding that such gathering is needed for mutual coexistence.

They also described Chief Ezechukwu as a bridge builder, who has given more to his community.

Cultural dance by all the kindred heads and the presence of a famous Nollywood star, Chief Stephen Alajemba, also known as Uwaezuoke climaxed the event.
