Anambra Govt Takes Family Planning Campaign To Ekwulobia, Aguata Council Area

Anambra State Government, in collaboration with The Challenge Initiative, TCI, has distributed commodities and other items to over forty women of child bearing age at Ola Ekwuluobia Health Center, Aguata Local Government Area, to promote family planning.

Staff reporter, Njideka Okoye, who covered the event, reports that the distribution was part of activities to commemorate  2021 World Contraception Day, celebrated last Sunday.

Addressing the women, the Family Planning Coordinator, Anambra State Ministry of Health, Mrs Chioma Okedo, represented by the State Reproductive Health Coordinator, Mrs Udodilim Muojekwu, said the essence of the celebration was to create awareness on the importance of family planning and educate women on how to manage their rights, calling on women of child bearing age to visit healthcare centers in the State to access family Planning services of the State Government free of cost.

Mrs Muojekwu noted that family planning is essential, as it helps reduce child mortality and mobidity  as well as enhance child spacing.

The State Coordinator  of The Challenge Initiative, TCI, Aneotah Egbe, said the visit was to mark World Contraception Day celebrated among women of reproductive age to create access to family planning services globally, and commended the State Government for its efforts in ensuring effective and efficient healthcare service delivery across Anambra.

Mr. Egbe stated that they chose to celebrate the day with women in hard to reach area to sensitize them on the need for family planning and increase access to family planning services to people freely.

Responding, the Reproductive Health Supervisor in Aguata Local Government Area, Mrs Ijeoma Onorah, said family planning is of great gain to both family and the society, as it controls population and other family problems, thanking the State Government and TCI for the free distribution of commodities and consumables to the women it the area.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs Oluebube-Christian Madu and Jenifer John, expressed happiness for being part of the programme, which they said will help them in child spacing and avoid unwanted pregnancy, calling on other women to embrace family planning without fear, as according to them, the practice is not harmful and is free of cost.
