The Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr. Uchenna Okafor assured that the peace and welfare of every market in the state remain the priority of Governor Willie Obiano led administration.
The Commissioner gave the assurance at the just concluded Electrical Dealers International Market Obosi, general election.
In the election, Mr. Chike Onunkwo emerged the President General of the market with four hundred and thirty-four votes against his opponent’s twenty-seven votes, while Mr. Vincent Mgbike won, as Vice President.
Other elected officers are Mr. Chinedu Ezeibe, secretary, Chibuzor Anyabolu Assistant secretary, Chinedu Ajudolu PRO and Anthony Umenduka, Provost One.
Mr. Chike Ezeumeh emerged as Provost Two, Innocent Ugwu Provost Three, Opel Okechukwu Treasurer and Linus Ohiri Financial Secretary while Ikechukwu Emenike is the welfare one and Friday Nweke welfare two.
ABS correspondence Faith Onyemuche reports that the commissioner expressed satisfaction on the level of orderliness exhibited by the electorates and congratulated the market electoral committee for conducting a credible and peaceful election.
In their separate speeches, the ASMATA President, Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu represented by the zonal leader, Onitsha zone, Chief Sam Emeka and the Electoral Committee Chairman of the market, Mr. Ndubuisi Emenike, commended the election process and charged the new president to carry every trader in the market along irrespective of who they voted for urging the traders to support the new executive.
Reassuring the traders of his commitment to the growth of the market, the Mr. Onunkwo thanked them for the support and confidence reposed in him, promising to work for the good of all throughout his four-year tenure.
He also appreciated Governor Obiano, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu and all, who contributed in restoring peace and normalcy to markets in Anambra State.
