Federal government says it will support the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and other Agencies concerned with the election to ensure that next month’s Anambra State governorship election is free, fair and credible.
President Muhammadu Buhari gave the promise when Governor Willie Obiano visited him at the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday.
President Buhari who maintained that his administration is committed to sustaining democratic ideals in Nigeria, frowned at those who use his name and that of federal government to intimidate the Anambra electorate.
On the recent threat, credited to Attorney-General of the federation and Minister of Justice Mallam Abubakar Malami SAN that the government will impose a state of emergency on Anambra State over security challenges, President Buhari assured Governor Obiano and Ndi Anambra that the federal government is not contemplating taking such drastic action saying that the government will rather increase its support to security agencies operating in Anambra State to contain the challenges among other measures.
Governor Willie Obiano who was in Abuja to report to President Muhammadu Buhari the statement credited to the Attorney-General of the federation and Minister of Justice Mallam Abubakar Malami SAN over his threat that the federal government will declare a State of emergency on Anambra State thanked President Buhari for the warm reception accorded him.
