In a bid to ensure financial viability in media and business sectors in the present economic realities in Nigeria, the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Business School, UBS, in collaboration with Unizik 94.1 FM, has organized a two-day workshop for media and business managers in Awka.

Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo report’s that the event, which had its theme as “Sustainability Models for Media and Business Managers in a Troubled Economy, also had the Director, Unizik FM and Associate Director Communication and Publicity Unizik Business School, Professor Stella Okunna as the co-host.

Also in attendance were major players in media and business sectors from across the state including the ABS staff, who were groomed on how best to sustain their various industries in the present economic challenges in the country.

Declaring the event open, the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Charles Esimone, who spoke through the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Professor Frederick Odibo described the workshop as apt in the present-day society, where businesses face several challenges including insecurity, epileptic power supply, unfriendly business polices, among others asking the participants to take active participation in order to move their businesses forward.

Earlier in an opening remark, the Director Unizik Business School, Professor Emma Okoye explained that the workshop was one of the numerous efforts by the Unizik Business School towards equipping business minded individuals with ideas for exploits and greater productivity in their various business endeavour.

In a keynote address, Dr Okey Ikechukwu listed product desirability, feasibility, viability, adaptability, sustainability, environmental sensitivity as some factors to be noted before embarking on any business to avoid crashing.

For some resource persons, including Dr Marcel Mbamalu, and the Director, West Africa Broadcast and Media Academy, Mr. Jika Attoh effective communication is one of the key factors that guarantee success in business urging media and business managers to embrace right communication models in their daily business activities, in order to excel.

The President, Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Pharmacist Chris Ukachukwu, and an entrepreneur, Lady Amarachi Okafor, who spoke on “Business Leadership and Succession Planning, Innovation and Growth in Business” respectively, tasked the participants on application of modern trends, skills and ideas in their businesses.

In a vote of thanks, the Deputy Director, Unizik Business School, Dr Chinedu Onyizugbe encouraged the participants to put into use, the knowledge they garnered and always take advantage of technology, especially the social media to attract more sales, promote their brand, and make profit.
