Anambra State is now a proud owner of an International Cargo and Passenger Airport after thirty years of yearning for one.

Governor Willie Obiano stated this at the Governor’s Lodge Amawbia while interacting with Anambra State journalists and members of the Radio Television Theater and Arts Workers Union, RATTAWU, South East zone, after an inspection tour of the airport and the International Convention Center, Awka.

Correspondent Ngozi Obileri reports that the dream came into reality through the present administration led by Governor Obiano.

Addressing members of the media, Governor Obiano assured that the swearing-in of the next governor, will take place at the newly constructed International Convention Center, Awka, which according to him would be fully completed by then.

He disclosed that the Senate has approved Federal University of Education Aguleri, which is waiting to be accented to by the president and lauded the federal government for doing one segment of the Enugu-Onitsha Express Way appealing for work to commence on the other segment to allow ease of traffic.

On education, Governor Obiano said that Anambra State has been the best across the country since the past years, noting that his administration has done well in all sectors of the economy, a reason why Ndi Anambra should not think twice in voting for APGA in the coming election.

Earlier at the airport, the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor while explaining the techniques involved in the construction of the airport said the two runways are five point seven kilometers, making it the longest in the world.

Engineer Ifejiofor added that the airport is a category 4B airport where all types of aircrafts can land comfortably even as he said that the runways, which are hundred percent completed, has water diversion channel to send all the water to Oyi River, so that aircrafts can land even while it is raining.

In a vote of thanks, the South East Vice President of RATTAWU, Prince Emeka Kalu, who spearheaded the tour, described the International Cargo Airport as an Aku-Luo-Uno project.
