The Anambra State 2022 Appropriation Bill of one hundred and forty-one point nine seven billion naira has scaled second reading.
House of Assembly Correspondent Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that while presenting the Bill to the House in session, the majority leader, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor explained that the budget is based on realistic projections in all sources of revenue and will enable the State government to generate over thirty billion naira as internally generated revenue next year.
He however, stressed the need for the House to review the fifty million naira allocated to Awka Capital Territory Development Authority with a view to increasing it in order to achieve the desired result.
On his part, the Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Chief Obinna Emeneka said the budget estimate is achievable if government can plug the loopholes through which revenue is diverted to private pockets and be strict in implementation of its policies and programmes for the year 2022.
The member representing Njikoka Constituency Two, Dr. Pete Ibida stressed the need for the House to increase the budgetary allocation of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority to give it face lift and make it look like other cities in the world.
In his contribution, the Deputy Speaker, Dr Paschal Agbodike also urged the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation to review budgetary allocation to road as the figure allotted to it is not enough to provide good road network for Ndi Anambra.
Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafir noted that the budget estimate will improve the internally generated revenue of the State and sustain Governor Willie Obiano’s performance over the last seven years and read out the bill to the members of the House, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.
Also, at plenary, the House extended the tenure of the Transition Committee Chairmen of the twenty-one Local Government Areas in the State for another three Months in line with section two hundred and eight of the Local government law as requested by Governor Willie Obiano.
In his speech, Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Okafor charged them to create a conducive environment for the peaceful conduct of the Anambra State governorship election.
In their various speeches, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Chief Raphael Nnabuife and his Orumba South counterpart, Chief Cyprian Okereke expressed appreciation to the House for the support they give them which enabled them to perform exceedingly well in their various Local government areas, assuring that they will secure victory for the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the Anambra November sixth Anambra State governorship election.
