The Anambra State liaison Officer in Abuja, Agatha Manafa has asked Ndi Anambra resident in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to champion promotion and protection of Igbo language and culture.
The Liaison Officer, who represented Governor Willie Obiano at this year’s Anambra cultural day symposium said Anambra day is a bi-annual event set aside for the recognition and celebration of brotherhood and unity.
She said the day is for showcasing the Anambra spirit in the people and a time to correct the mistakes of the past.
The liaison officer described the theme of the symposium “taa bu gboo” as apt as he said there is need for all hands to be on deck for the preservation of the Igbo language and tradition.
She said since the FCT is multilingual, Ndi Igbo must begin to teach their children the language, what they are known for and the age long tradition of hard work and perseverance since it will aid their growth
For the President of Anambra StateTowns People’sAssociation, ASTPA, Chief Arinze Anadu, the day is set aside to speak to Ndi Anambra as it is still a good time to start whatever one desires in life hence the choice of the theme.
He said the day marks the beginning of going back to recapture those lost values like respect for elders, the language which is currently going extinct, love for one’s neighbour and unity among other values that needs to be corrected.
The organising committee chairman of the Anambra cultural symposium, Mr. Amaechi Ezeokoli, said they have made it mandatory in the Anambra State Towns People’s Association that members inculcate in their children the culture of Igbo speaking in their homes.
