A combined team of security and paramilitary agencies in Anambra State has repelled gunmen attack at Afor Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area, neutralizing four armed attackers.

The team had embarked on alert patrol across major cities in the state as a show of readiness for the November sixth governorship election.

However, at the popular Afor Nnobi, they encountered gun attack from armed men riding in black Highlander SUV.

A gun duel, which lasted for more than an hour left four of the assailants’ dead.

Speaking to newsmen at Umunze, where the patrol ended for the day, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng said the aim of the patrol was to stamp the presence of work-ready security agents in the state and also to tell Ndi Anambra that they have nothing to be afraid of.

Mr. Echeng, who described the Nnobi encounter as an example of what awaits enemies of peace, urged eligible voters in the state to come out and exercise their civic obligation on the election day.

With the Anambra gubernatorial election just one week away, security units in the state continue to assure residents of adequate cover, while insisting that those, who want to cause chaos would face the sharp wrath of justice.

The combined security and paramilitary team that embarked on the patrol include the Nigeria Army, Navy, Department of State Security, Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and men of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Popular areas patrolled by the team include Awka, Onitsha, Nkpor, Umuoji, Ojoto, Uke and Nnobi.

Others are Nnokwa, Adazi-Ani, Agulu, Ekwulobia, Oko, Ajalli, Ezira down to Umunze.
