The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Usman Alkali Baba, says President Muhammadu Buhari is determined to ensure that no one uses this Saturday’s Anambra State governorship election to derail the nation’s democratic process.

He said Police and other security agencies are ready to enforce the President’s directive in that regard.

The Inspector-General of Police, who stated this at Election Stakeholders’ Meeting at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, said heavy presence of security agencies in the State is to ensure sanctity of the election, and to demonstrate to misguided political elements and nonstate actors that government is determined to ensure that they do not advance their ignoble intents.

He assured Ndi-Anambra that security operatives will be impartial, firm and resolute in discharging their mandates, adding that while there will be restriction of movement, accredited journalists and observers with proper identification can monitor the exercise.

He said given the peculiarity of Anambra State governorship election security operatives will be on patrol while others will be stationed at strategic places to ensure adequate security of men and materials for the exercises.

Correspondent Joseph Egbeocha reports that candidates of various political parties participating in the election, members of civil society organizations, journalists attended the meeting which featured question and answer session.
