As Ndi-Anambra go to poll on Saturday, security operatives have been called upon to ensure safety of persons  with disabilities who are in the State as election observers.

 

Correspondent Joseph Egbeocha reports that about two hundred persons  with disabilities were deployed as observers in the Anambra governorship election, according to the Country Executive Director of Inclusive Friends Association, IFA, Grace Jerry.

 

Speaking at Election Stakeholders Meeting at Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, a representative of persons living with disabilities and Executive Director, Global Hope and Justice, Barrister Paul Ihekwoaba said there is need for special attention to members in that side of challenge, security wise, to enable them discharge their mandate and contribute to national development.

 

He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for doing much to include disabled persons in performing civic responsibilities.

 

Mr Ihekwoaba, who also appreciated Governor Willie Obiano’s disability friendly policies and programmes, expressed hope that incoming administration will do more for members in the State.

 

Responding, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba said Police and other security agencies have made watertight security arrangements, including patrol and standby operations, to ensure success of the exercise.
