The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has presented certificates of return to Professor Chukwuma Soludo and Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, the winner of the just concluded Anambra State Governorship Election as governor and deputy governor-elect respectively.

The ceremony is in compliance with section 75 of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended, which mandates the commission to issue a Certificate of Return to the governor and deputy governor-elect, signifying the fact that they won the just concluded 2021 Anambra State governorship election and satisfied the constitutional and legal requirements in section 179 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended.

In his remark, the Supervising National Commissioner for Anambra State election, Barrister Festus Okoye appreciated the people of Anambra State for their firm belief in democracy noting that Ndi Anambra understood the sovereign right imbedded in the vote and elevated the value and quality of the vote through vigilance and mandate protection.

He said that the electoral umpire will further audit the conduct of the election as it is the tradition after every major election in other to reflect on things that worked well and those that failed and further improve on them with Bimodal Voters Accreditation System as point of reference.

He presented the certificates of return, signed by the chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu to Professor Soludo and Dr. Ibezim after they signed their columns.

Speaking after receiving the certificate of return, Professor Soludo thanked all the key stakeholders in the just concluded Anambra State Governorship Election, including President Muhammadu Buhari, the leaders of the party, starting from the National Leader, Governor Willie Obiano, the National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye, the former National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh and Ndi Anambra in general.

He appreciated the sacrifices made by Anambra electorates during the election and promised not to disappoint them.
