The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Health and Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi says the State government is set to employ more health workers to beef up personnel in the sector.
Dr. Onyemaechi who stated this in Awka noted that the state was not insulated from the mass exodus of healthcare personnel to other countries in search of greener pastures, and to stop such mass exit of healthcare workers, Governor Obiano approved hundred percent Consolidated Medical Salary Scheme to be paid medical doctors to boost their morale.
He also disclosed that Governor Willie Obiano has set up a committee to recruit more healthcare workers into the system to replace those who have left the State in pursuit of greener pastures.
Dr Onyemaechi disclosed that before the coming of Governor Willie Obiano there was no primary healthcare development agency, as well as accreditation to graduates medical students of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku Awka.
The Special Adviser who functions as the Chairman, Governing Council of Anambra State College of Health Technology Obosi, revealed that the National Health Insurance Administration Bill at the National Assembly has captured the Adoption Model of the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, as one of the best practices to getting informal persons to have health insurance schemes.
Dr Onyemaechi added that Anambra is the first State in Nigeria to start accessing Basic Healthcare Provision Fund Services because it qualified with having one functional primary healthcare facility in each of the three hundred and twenty-six wards and also received accreditation for three hundred and thirty facilities to be used for basic healthcare provision services.
He disclosed that the Anambra State Governor-Elect, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has stated on several fora that under his regime, the healthcare system in Anambra will be revitalized through public-private partnership arrangement.
