The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Health has applauded the Obiano’s administration for meeting the health needs of the people through the Anambra State Health Insurance scheme.
The Chairman of Anambra State House of Assembly committee on Health, Dr. Nnamdi Umeh made the commendation when the key officials of the Agency appeared before the committee in Awka to defend their 2022 budget estimate.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that Dr. Umeh observed that since the establishment of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Ndi Anambra especially the less privileged have been enjoying affordable and quality health care, assuring that his committee will support the Agency to do more in 2022 fiscal year to meet the vision of the state government in health.
He however, urged the state government to improve the primary healthcare centers across the state.
While defending the 2022 budget estimate of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, the Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi explained that this year, the agency improved its enrollment figure from ninety thousand to one hundred and fifty thousand persons.
Dr. Onyemaechi disclosed that they equally commenced the enrollment of over a twenty thousand vulnerable members of the society into the Basic Health Care Provision Fund of the Federal Government this year from the three hundred and thirty accredited healthcare centers across the state.
He maintained that the vision of the Anambra State Government towards attaining universal health coverage in the state by using Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme as a vehicle is gradually becoming a reality.
The Ministries of Health, Local Government and Community Affairs represented by their permanent secretaries and key officials also appeared before the committee and defended their 2022 budget proposals.
