Determined to add further efforts to the current fight against  social vices in Anambra State, the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Awka South Local Government Area has started sensitization campaign against cultism and substance abuse in secondary schools across the area.

The exercise which kicked off with Igwebuike Grammar School Awka, Holy Cross Secondary School, Umuawulu, Union Secondary School Umuawulu among others, will be extended to other schools until the target group are comprehensively reached.

Addressing the students at each of the visited schools, the Co-ordinator of National Youth Council of Nigeria in Awka South, Comrade Stanley Nkala who maintained that cultism and drug abuse are evil, highlighted their negative effects.

Comrade Nkala expressed dismay on the recent rise in the consumption of crystal methamphetamine, popularly known as ‘mkpulu mmili’ among young people.

On his part, the pioneer co-ordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in Awka South Local Government Area Comrade Ifeanyi Nwosu, charged teachers to always inculcate sound morals to the students and advised parents and guardians to always monitor the activities of their children and wards.

In a remark the Principal of Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka, Mr Jovita Arazu and the Vice Principal, Administration of Holy Cross Secondary School, Umuawulu, Mrs Rose Ezenekwe, commended the initiative and assured that the school authority will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the good image and integrity of their institutions are maintained.

In their vote of thanks, the senior prefects of the schools visited, Messers Michael Nnamani and Divine Precious, promised to be of noble character for themselves and for the future of their communities.
