Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria has ended its 2021 annual scientific conference, luncheon, investiture and award ceremonies.
The event with the theme “Quality medical laboratory service and practice in community health care system, the challenges and prospects,” took place in Awka.
Anambra State Commissioner of Health Dr Vincent Okpala, represented by Permeant Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Nwabueze Nwankwo, charged the association to live and practice their profession with diligence and honesty embaded in their oath of office.
In his opening address, the Chairman Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria Anambra State branch, Comrade Ikenna Anahalu, said medical laboratory scientist have played vital roles in combating epidemics and pandemic in the state, Nigeria and the world.
He pointed out that during the epidemics of Ebola virus, Lassa fever and during the upsurge of COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the association and medical laboratory scientist in general provided timely, precise and accurate diagnostic results which enabled government to manage infected individuals and their contacts.
In his keynote lecture on the theme, “Quality medical laboratory service and practice in community health care system the challenges and prospects,” the National President Medical Laboratory Directors of Nigeria, Prince Elochukwu Adibo, posited that laboratory scientist must be on top of their practice reliable, accurate, timely and must be useful in a clinical or public health setting.
The chairman on the occasion Professor Chris Anyamene in his speech reminded the members to avoid cutting corners as it may endanger the lives of unsuspecting members of the general public.
Inauguration of the ninth state executive officers of Anambra State branch and past chairmen formed the highpoint of the event.
