The Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor says Anambra State legislature passed the Disability Rights Bill to integrate persons with disability into full activities in the state and improve their wellbeing.
In his goodwill message to mark the 2021 International Day of Persons with Disability, Right Honourable Okafor called on government at different levels and various Houses of Assembly in the country to formulate policies and legislations aimed at providing a better life for persons with disability.
The Speaker who extolled the wife of the Governor of Anambra State Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano for using the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative CAFÉ to improve the living standards of the disabled persons in the State, enjoined well-meaning citizens to commit part of their wealth to addressing the challenges facing people with disability in their localities.
Right Honourable Okafor, however urged people with disability to live above all forms of discrimination and stigmatization and utilize their God’s given talents in their various areas of specialization to improve their condition.
While commending Governor Willie Obiano for establishing the Disability Rights Commission in the State, the State number one lawmaker called on private and public organizations to integrate people with disabilities in their scheme and provide an enabling environment for them in order to harness their potential.
