A nongovernmental Organization, Best Brain Contest has organized the first edition of Anambra State Mathematics and Igbo Language quiz competition for Senior Secondary schools in the state.
Correspondent Njideka Okoye reports that the event, held at the Professor Kenneth Dike Central E Library Awka, had participants drawn from secondary schools within the three Senatorial Districts.
Speaking at the event, the Head, Best Brain Contest team, Mr. Frank Igbojindu said that the aim for the choice of Igbo Language and Mathematics was to promote the cultural heritage and mathematics solving skills amongst students.
Mr. Igbojindu, who commended the participants, announced that the event will be a bi- annual programme for secondary schools and lovers of education.
He listed some of the benefits of the competition to include scholarships to university level, over one-million-naira cash reward for winners and monthly salary for champions among others.
On his part, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Secondary Education, Honourable Paul Ifeanyi, thanked the organizers for the initiative and urged the students to take their studies serious to attain greater fit.
Honourable Ifeanyi described education as the key to development and every successful venture, noting that the strength and worth of every nation depend on its level of education, hence the reason Anambra State Government promoted the sector.
The Director Anambra State Library Services, Dr. Nkechi Udeze welcomed the participants and charged them to study hard and be of good behaviour to realize their dreams.
At the end of the competition, Victoria Ekwela of Diffencial College Awka came first, Tochi Maduebo of Comprehensive Secondary School Nawfia came second while Christian Nwachukwu of Government Technical College, Ihiala, took third position in Mathematics championship.
Also, Chinwugo Excellence of Comprehensive Secondary School Nawfia came first, Oluchi Ezeani of Diffencial College Awka took second position and Divine Chukwuagozie of Dennis Memorial Grammar school, Onitsha, came third.
