It is no longer news that transport fare and prices of food skyrocket during Christmas celebration.

Owing to this, commuters and holiday makers are wondering if they could afford transport fare to the hinterlands to celebrate with their kitts and kins as transportation fare this Yuletide is unimaginable.

Correspondent Blessing Ijedibia observed that commercial drivers have increased transport fare to over hundred percent.

A ride on tricycle from Nkpor to Main Market now ranges from two hundred to three hundred naira depending on the time of the day as against the previous one hundred naira.

Also, a ride in a shuttle bus from MCC junction to Nkpor New Parts Market, which goes for one hundred naira, now costs two hundred naira.

The story is not different in virtually all the routes in the commercial city of Onitsha.

Commenting on the issue, a petty trader at the Army Gate Market, popularly known as Afia Army Gate, Mrs. Adaeze Anunobi lamented the sharp increase and wondered what would be the fate of those, travelling outside Anambra State for the celebration.

On his part, a bricklayer, Mr. Emeka Ojionye lamented the general economic hardship in the country,  calling on government at all levels to map out measures to cushion the effects.
