Anambra State Government has sealed and taken possession of Chris Tee and Silver  Fuel stations; which were gutted by fire Sunday night.

 

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that Governor Willie Obiano, who gave the directive when he visited the scene, directed law enforcement agencies to close down fuel stations in the State where gas skits are sited.

 

The Governor explained that he got intelligence report that the fire was ignited when the dealers were in the process of offloading and discharging cooking gas.

He however expressed satisfaction with  the prompt response  by the State fire service and security agencies, and warned petrol dealers to desist from building gas skits within their premises.

 

 

The State Fire Chief, Mr. Martin Agbili explained that they deployed four fire trucks when they received the distressed calls, pointing out that due to the combustible nature of the product, the fire was difficult to contain, but was eventually extinguished.

 

Speaking to the ABS, the Member representing Onitsha Constituency Two at the State House of Assembly, Mr. Edward Ibuzo noted that laws  should be adhered to, while the Transition Committee Chairman of Onitsha North, Mr. Patrick Aghamba thanked the State Government for equipping the State fire service to combat fire promptly.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Petroleum Matters, Mr. Peter Nwosu, as well as Heads of security agencies were at the scene to receive the Governor.

At about 7.30pm yesterday the fire broke out at Chris Tee fuel station around Borromeo roundabout, Onitsha but no life was lost.
