The ABS 2021 Christmas Trade Fair commenced on Tuesday this week, however, the opening ceremony holds on Saturday, December 18th. The Fair, with the theme: Creating Awareness for Local Productivity, will last for ten days, from December 14 to December 24, 2021. The Trade Fair is a partnership between the Awka Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (AWKACCIMA) and the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS).

Already, the Trade Fair Ground at the ABS Field has been designed in tune with the Trade Exhibition, with a number of companies, entrepreneurs, food vendors, technologists, among others jostling for business stands.

The Chairman and Managing Director of G.I. Okafor and Sons Limited, makers of Winco Foam, Dr. Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Okafor, is the chairman of the opening ceremony. There are high expectations that many companies, which have secured places at the Trade Fair arena, will showcase their products and sell to consumers at subsidized rates.

Historically, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce is the pioneer chamber of commerce in Nigeria, founded on December 5, 1888. It is well known for its annual Lagos International Trade Fair, which was launched in 1977.

In 1960, the Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), was established. The Association is the umbrella organization for various affiliate member chambers of Commerce in Nigeria. The Association champions the course of business through its advocacy role and influences public policies that promote free enterprise.

Later, various states in Nigeria started to establish their own chambers of commerce in their various senatorial zones, which in turn, organize trade fairs for companies, entrepreneurs and manufacturers.

Trade fairs have been crucial sales and marketing tools for centuries. In short, they allow businesses to showcase their goods, disperse knowledge and talk about industry trends in a tailored environment. Nevertheless, the ABS Christmas Trade Fair promises more than that.

The trade fair will bring together the whole industry in the state, where people will find new markets and opportunities as well as follow latest trends and innovation and enable participants get new ideas for their businesses. It will equally introduce vendors to buyers and ensure that industry players maintain contact with industry developments.

So, as preparations for the commencement of the ABS Christmas Trade Fair have reached fever pitch, manufacturers, companies and entrepreneurs should use the occasion to increase marketing patronage as well as create a forum for physical interaction between them and their potential customers.

The Awka Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture founded in 1972 should, in future ABS fairs, undertake a vigorous campaign all over the state capital and beyond, to ensure that goods to be displayed in such fairs by companies and industrialists are in tune with our present stage of industrialization.

Anambra State is rich in culture. We should use the ABS future Trade Fairs to colourfully display our culture, tradition, arts and music.

Finally, all the urban centres could use the ABS Trade Fair as a means of fostering the state’s internal trade and thus diversify the economy. Whichever way one may look at it, the ABS Christmas Trade fair will usher in a business boom in the state through sales promotion and sales, as well as maintain new customers’ contacts. Come, entrepreneurs, companies, industrialists, manufacturers and all invited dignitaries and you will be welcomed into the busy arena of the ABS Christmas Trade Fair.
