Governor Willie Obiano has approved the appointment of members of the newly established Anambra State Disability Rights Commission (DRC).

 

The commission is saddled with the responsibility of representing and advocating for the right and wellbeing of Persons with Disabilities in Anambra state, ensure the full domestication and implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of persons with disability and the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018 signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

 

The members have Barrister Chukwuma Ezewuzie as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the commission, Barrister Chinenye Okeke who is a Deputy Director representing Ministry of Justice, as Secretary, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, who is the Anambra state chairman, Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities as a member, Mrs Anthonia Obiano Director Rehabilitation, Representing Ministry of Women and Children Affairs also a member.

 

Others are, Miss Victoria Okonkwo who is a Unit Head, Ministry of Basic Education, member, Mr Tony Oli, representing Anambra State Sports Commission, member, Bishop Moses Ezedebego, representing Christian Association of Nigeria, member, Dr Lady Pat Okeke, representing Private Sector also a member.

 

Mrs Eucharia Anekwe, Director Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre, representing Civil Society Organisation focusing on Disability Issues, is also member, as well as Mr Williams Ndidika Umeh, a Retired Director of Education and Former Head of Department, Education and Social Development Local Government Service Commission.
