People’s anticipation finally came to an end as Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano officially commissioned the all-new Awka City Stadium.

The FIFA-rated stadium, along with the Anambra International Convention Centre and the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri are some of the standout legacy projects of the Willie Obiano government.

Correspondent Daniel Ezeigwe  reports that the new stadium, which has the capacity to accomodate a good number of spectators, came with a synthetic turf, electronic cupboard, modern locker rooms, floodlights and marked areas for field and track sports.

Assessing the works, the Anambra State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, Architect Mike Okonkwo said that the three legacy projects were deliberately done to complement each other, noting that the criticisms on project priority were insignificant as Governor Obiano has been able to set up infrastructural system that touches every area without neglecting the other.

On their parts, the member representing Njikoka Constituency Two in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honorable Pete Ibida, the Special Adviser to the governor on Community Liaison and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Vera-Queen Okonkwo and the Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, said that the new stadium further demonstrates Governor Obiano’s passion for sports and youth development, adding that the value of the project would soon begin to unfold.

Others, who witnessed the commissioning, including the National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barrister Titus Akpudo, the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South, Mr. Leo Nwuba, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Laison, Comrade Obi-Ochije Modilim and the traditional ruler of Awa in Orumba North Local Government Area, Igwe Isreal Okeke-Ezue, said with the stadium and the International Convention Centre in the capital city, Governor Obiano has strategically boosted the socio-economic strength of Awka and surrounding cities.

With works reaching their peak at the International Convention Centre, Awka, Governor Obiano had noted on several occasions that he will officially hand over power to the governor-elect on March seventeen, 2022, at the venue to mark its official inauguration.
