The people of Omabala extraction have been called upon to come together and build a formidable force that cannot be overlooked in politics.

 

This was the climax of the speeches made during the third edition of Okanga Aguleri lecture series which was held at Okanga hall Eziagulu Aguleri, Anambra East council area.

 

Okanga Aguleri lecture series is part of the activities lined up for the one hundred and twenty second ovala Aguleri ancient kingdom.

Speaking at the annual event, the traditional ruler of Aguleri, Igwe Michael Idigo said he was happy that they have kept a date with history for the third year in its series, and explained that the named Okanga lecture was derived from Okanga royal music which always sends out messages, as Okanga lecture was meant to send out message to Ndi Omabala.

 

Igwe Idigo the fifth, appreciated the people of Eziagulu for starting and completing the village hall, venue for the event in less than one month, noting that it was another achievement the town is recording since he introduced the Okanga lecture where any village that will host the event would have to build a hall for that purpose.

In an opening remark, the chairman on the occasion and a former Senator representing  Anambra Central Senatorial district, Senator Victor Umeh, said the theme for the 2021 Okanga lecture “Harnessing the strength of Omabala people for relevance in the future politics of Anambra and Nigeria “is timely, now that they have an outgoing governor whom he said did wonderfully well in office, and that they should rally round him as a political leader, adding that the governor has all it takes to boost the political relevance of the area.

 

The member representing Anambra East constituency in the state House of Assembly, Honourable Obinna Emeneka called for peace between warring communities in the area as without unity, they cannot achieve their aim and thanked the organisers of the event, even as he urged other communities in the area to emulate introducing intellectual dimensions to popular events.

In a lecture, the guest lecturer, and Dean Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nigeria Nsuka, Professor Kenneth Oforkansi said Omabala people have almost similar cultures and speak virtually same language, have untapped potential in all aspects of life, and as the food basket of the state and country by extension, have all it takes to make a name in politics, especially with over six hundred thousand population of people of the area, calling on them to unite and form a block.

A discussant at the event, who is a former Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Peter Obi, chief Mike Udah, identified crisis as the only barrier that would deny people of the area the needed cooperation to achieve the political relevance they seek, calling on Ndi Aguleri and Umueri to put an end to the age long crisis between the two communities as according to him, it has caused them a lot and will continue to cause them problem if nothing is done urgently.

 

Earlier, the Chairman local organizing committee of the 2021Okanga Aguleri lecture series, Chief Tony Oli, said that Okanga is not just a lecture but part of developmental agenda of Ndi Aguleri and that the lecture tends to convey message to people of the area, and has made many villages in Aguleri to develop their place by building halls on their own.

 

Correspondent Ngozi Obileri reports that a member of the Board of Directors, Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr Marcel Manafa, the Managing Director, Anambra State Waste Management Agency, ASWAMA, Chief Amaechi Akaora, among others were part of the planning committee of the event, while members of Ojiana uno, youths as well as women groups attended the event.
