According to the Holy Bible, there is time for everything; a time to be born and a time to die. Mrs Rita Nwanodu Ichu (Achalugo), nee Eboh, joined the saints triumphant on August 26, 2021 at the age of 73. The great matriarch was born on October 6, 1948 into the family of Mr and Mrs Eboh Ejiofor, all late now.

The young Rita had a very humble beginning. She attended her primary education till the grade of standard six, when she proceeded to learn how to become a seamstress.

When she lost her parents, Nwanodu left to stay with her eldest sister. Later, she moved back to her village, Obosi in Idemili North L.G.A to stay with her elder brother, Cyril Eboh of the blessed memory. While in the village, she met her heartthrob, Jonathan Ichu (popularly known as Alhaji Ichu) from Ire Obosi, who came to visit the village through a family friend.

They got married in 1970. Their marriage was blessed with six beautiful children (four girls and two boys). Unfortunately, she lost her husband very early into their marriage in 1982. Thus, she was left to take care and train all her children alone.

Mrs Rita Nwanodu Ichu was a very strong and loving mother that worked so hard to give her children the best she could afford. She never relented in her relationship with God because she believed that her strength was from the Lord.

Mama was a very loving and accommodating woman. So many people lived in her house. She never shut her doors against anyone. Despite the little she had, she was ever ready to share with her children, family, friends and everyone that crossed her path.

Achalugo was so strong in her relationship with God; she never missed going to church. She was so involved in all her church activities. She was a mother to all her church members. Hence, the church nick named Mrs Rita Ichu MAMA POWER (the name of her church at Lagos is Power House Assembly of the Redeemed Christian Church of God) Surulere, Lagos. She was loved by all.

Achalugo, your children – Tochukwu Jonathan, Ugochukwu, Adaora, Ifeyinwa, Uchechukwu and Oluoma as well as extended family members, friends and well-wishers  are bidding you fare well, praying God to grant your gentle soul a heavenly rest till we meet to part no more.

Service of songs was held in her honour at her residence at Surulere Lagos before taken her body to Anambra state. Service of Songs/Christian wake holds today, Thursday, January 6, 2022 at her country home, Jonathan Ichu’s compound, Ire Obosi.

Tomorrow, Friday, January 7th, the body of Mrs Rita Nwanodu Ichu will be lying in state at her compound, followed by burial service at the same compound, Ire Obosi, thereafter interment and condolences. On Sunday, January 9, 2022 is outing and thanksgiving service at Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church, Obosi. She will be greatly missed.

All glory be unto our Lord Jesus Christ for her beautiful soul and selfless nature. Mama, Nwanyi Makalisia, we love you and miss you so much.

Rest in peace; Achalugo Nwanyioma
