A Eucharistic Mass was held today at Saint Patricks Cathedral Awka to mark the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration. The mass attracted Governor Willie Obiano and members of the State Executive Council among others.
The mass presided over by the Bishop, Catholic Diocese Of Awka,  Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor also attracted the Deputy Governor – elect Of Anambra State, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the new Head Head Of Service, Barrister Theodore Igwegbe, serving and retired Service Chiefs including the State Commissioner Of Police Echeng Echeng , members of the state Traditional Rulers Council among others.
In his speech at the mass, Governor Obiano commended  members of the Armed forces for sustaining protection of life and property of the citizens which noted promotes socio-economic activities.
Governor Obiano thanked both serving and retired members for their sacrifices   urging them not to relent as according to him the work ahead is still enermous.
In a homily, Most Reverend Ezeokafor said that as members of the Armed Forces give the best part of their lives in service to the people and country
government at all levels should give them necessary support to make them happy and encourage them to carry out their duties efficiently.
He enjoined members of the Arm Forces maintain friendly disposition with the people to earn their trust and confidence while he calling for assistance to  retired members to appreciate their labours .
The State Head Of Service, Barrister Theodore Igwegbe in her speech said the State government has continued to prioritise  welfare of members of the Arm Forces   charging to intensify measures to secure the country.
While thanking God and Governor Willie Obiano for his support so far, the State Chairman, Nigerian Legion,Major Ben Agbogu retired, said they need more financial and moral support to overcome their various challenges .
In their separate speech, the National President Of ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo,the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Matter’s, Chief Alex Onukwue and the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South, Sir Leo Nwuba commended Governor Willie Obiano for remembering the fallen heroes and veterans who put in their best to serve humanity and recalled that Ozoemezina memorial held held some ago  by Governor Willie Obiano’s administration was to show appreciation and give sense of belongings to the fallen heroes as well encourages their various families that the sacrifice by their loved ones was not in vain.
