The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, says it is committed to improving the nation’s electoral process through the deployment of State-of-the-art technology.
Its Chairman Professor Mahmud Yakubu, who gave the assurance at INEC headquarters in Abuja while playing host to the European Union Observation follow-up mission, informed them that immediately after the 2019 General Election, the Commission began a comprehensive review of the election observation reports by accredited domestic and international observers.
According to him, the commission also conducted its own internal review involving regular and ad hoc officials and subsequently expanded it to include political parties, Civil Society Organizations, security agencies and media organizations.
The INEC Chairman noted that, shortly after the signing into law of the electoral act, the Commission released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2023 General Election which contains fourteen activities out of which two have already been implemented
The leader of the delegation and European Union Chief Election Observer, Maria Arena, had earlier in a speech, assured of the Union’s support to deepen Nigeria’s Electoral process while the European Union ambassador to Nigeria Samuela Isopa encouraged INEC to expedite action to implement the signed Electoral law.
