Youths have been challenged to use scientific ideas and innovations to contribute positively for a brighter future and growth in the society.

 

A professor of Science Education at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Josephine Okoli stated this at Bishop Crowther Seminary, Awka during the 2022 Science and Art week of the school.

Correspondent, Amaka Chibuzor Okoye  reports that the Science and Art week which has its theme as “the place of science and arts in contemporary society” aimed at exposing the students on the new trend and techniques of the subjects and how it will impact or affect them.

 

Professor Okoli noted that science controls the world as it helps in various aspects of life and were based on observations.

 

She maintained that science is not as much difficult as people are perceiving, rather it needs much attention and hard work for students to scale through stating that it will equip them with criticality and creativity of mind challenging parents to monitor their wards.

She encouraged the students to put more effort in their academics and as well participate during practicals and form a learning group where they will study more and create useful ideas that will add positively to the society.

 

On his part, a lecturer of Arts at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Associate Professor Chude Okeke lamented that art as a subject or course have suffered neglect for decades now as parents and guardians see it as a subject for the unintelligent, stating that arts influences people’s opinion, installs values and transform expectations across space and time.

In a welcome address, the Principal of the School, Venerable Nnamdi Enendu said they need their science and art students to maintain their creativity as one of the most important arms of education is to develop more knowledge, skills and abilities stating that their efforts in organizing the program is to make the students to explore their academic virtues both in science and arts.

 

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Science and Art week, Sir Samuel Igbokwe described the program as very apt because of the challenges witnessed in today’s society, pointing out that it will enhance knowledge and give the students a background to prepare themselves for the future.

In their separate speeches, two of the students Master Ejikeme Ositadinma and Emmanuel Okoye who displayed some of the items manufactured by them said science has to do with life without which everything will be meaningless.

 

Displays of different items constructed by the students climaxed the program.
