Our Government House Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that Deputy Governor Ibezim noted that the massive and intensive waste evacuation and drainage desilting exercise in the four Local Government Areas is aimed at encouraging cleanliness and healthy environment across the state.

Dr Ibezim, who is in charge of the sanitation exercise, requested that residents of the areas should join the exercise by cleaning up their compounds and surroundings.

Deputy Governor Ibezim reminded people from the four Local Government Areas that there will be total lockdown in the areas from six o’clock in the morning to four o’clock in the evening today, being the first day of the exercise, in order to guarantee success of the exercise.

He explained that the wastes evacuated from the areas will be taking directly to dump sites which government of Professor Chukwuma Soludo has already concluded arrangements to convert into landfills, where the wastes will be used to create wealth for the state.

Disclosing that the exercise will be replicated in other Local Government Areas in the state, Dr Ibezim said that the exercise will drastically prevent health hazards caused by unhygienic environment and poor waste management in the state.
