Some dilapidated roads in the state are now receiving attention following Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive that palliative work should be done on dilapidated roads in the state to enable Ndi Anambra have access to their various destinations this Easter season, and Anambra state Ministry of Works has moved contractors to various sites.
Some of the roads in Awka capital city and environs are Obi -Okoli -Unizik Junction Road, Y junction axis of the road, Nodu Okpuno-Geneva Hotel road, under fly over Amawbia among others
Speaking to the ABS shortly after inspecting the Amawbia under fly over axis, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma said that Governor Soludo had declared state of emergency on roads in the state but started with palliative works to allow Ndi Anambra enjoy the Easter celebration.
Engineer Okoma expressed satisfaction with the quality of job done in the meantime and urged the contractor not to compromise quality.
He explained that the contractor moved to site without charging the government a dime saying that he is doing the work free of cost.
A road use Mr. Valentine Onwuka said that prior to the palliative, they experienced hardship on that axis but appreciated Governor Soludo for his intervention.
Works correspondent Ngozi Obileri reports that men of the construction company and Engineers from the ministry of works were seen at the site with heavy duty equipments and materials at their disposal.
