The people of Umuanyacho kindred, Umudim Village, Ekwulummili Nnewi South Council area have cried out over the devastating effects of erosion on their land as their efforts to curb the situation in the past has proven insufficient.

 

The erosion problem according to the President General of the town, Chief Clement Ezeifedikwa who is also a member of Umuanyacho kindred started after the civil war in Umudim village and later extended to other villages and lamented that the erosion has washed away two buildings and destroyed numerous economic trees and farmlands.

Chief Ezeifedikwa revealed that the kindred had so far spent over ten million naira in the erosion control project but the situation is still escalating and beckoned on the state government for immediate intervention before the whole area gets washed away.

 

The Engineer handling the erosion site project Mr. Nwachukwu Ntagu disclosed that the menace will need close to two hundred million naira to control as the site covers over one kilometer of road in length as well as twenty metres wide.

The chairman of the Erosion Control Committee, Mr. Izundu Oraukwu represented by the Committee Public Relations Officer, Mr. Amaechi Ojukwu made it clear that the erosion if not controlled immediately, will wash away the entire Umudim village and the neighbouring villages and called for a positive response from the state government.
