The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor has called for stronger partnership between the church and government in promoting the welfare of the people.
Speaking while dedicating some renovated facilities at Regina Caeli Specialist Hospital Awka.
Paul Ezeoke was there and reports that the facilities which have been renovated and rebuilt include Dental Clinic, Intensive Care Unit, Private Ward and Ahụike Ndiora Chapel of Perpetual Adoration.
The intervention was a collaboration between the church and some foreign donor organizations.
Most Reverend Ezeokafor recalled that over the years the church has continued to compliment efforts of government in providing basic amenities Including quality healthcare and education, noting that supporting these institutions with necessary logistics will expand such interventions to benefit more people, stressing that health facilities are very important in sustaining healthy and progressive society and should not be left for government or the church alone.
He said the church has continued to upgrade facilities in the hospital to meet the health needs of the people, pointing out that conducive environment help to facilitate the healing process and thanked the donors for their assistance while calling on other privileged individuals and organizations to contribute in any where they can to help others and make the society better.
Also speaking the Manager of the hospital, Reverend Father Innocent Affusim disclosed that the intervention was attracted by the priests of Awka Diocese Reverend Father Godwin Okeatu who is currently on mission in Switzerland and Reverend Father Charles Ogbunabara who attracted intervention from Austria, noting that the institution has been repositioned to serve both the health and spiritual needs of the people.
Reverend Father Affusim noted that proper equipping and management of health facilities in Nigeria would discourage medical tourism and brain drain in the health sector.
The dedication was witnessed by the Religious and members of the Board of the hospital, among others.
