Following downpour within the last couple of days, ABS crew
monitored Ogbaru Sakamori to ascertain effect of the rain in the area.
The desilting of the Sakamori and earthening were ongoing at the site.
On arrival at the site, ABS crew observed that flood had dried up, and parts of the Sakamori had been thoroughly cleared off waste while Excavator and other heavy duty vehicles were seen removing sand from the Sakamori.
Interacted with some workers at the site on the progress of work and challenges being faced, one of the workers at the site, Mr. Fadi Hassan said flood from days of heavy rain did not flow into residential buildings as usual because they had drained the Sakamori to a point it was able to contain the flood.
He identified rainfall as major challenge facing the ongoing work at the site, pointing out that whenever it rains, flood pushes sand back into the Sakamori, thereby causing a slowdown of work.
Contributing, another worker, Mr. Peter Okeke said aside the rain, work is in progress at the site, adding that they have been able to drain the Sakamori to a reasonable point where it can hold off and control flood through water channels even as he expressed optimism that work will be completed at the site within the month.
A resident of the area, Mr. Nonso Onyeama appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for keeping his promise of desilting the Sakamori, while appealing to the construction company working at the site to increase tempo of work and dig deep to open up blocked water channels in the area to avoid flooding.
