Journalists have been tasked to step up their corporate social responsibilities, and to continue to help in bringing needed changes in the society.
The Chief Medical Director of Life International Hospital, Awka, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu gave the charge when executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council paid him a courtesy visit in Awka, in preparation of its forthcoming programmes, including health week, which is intended to raise awareness on health issues, such as In Vitro Fertilization, IVF.
Receiving the NUJ Executive, Professor Ikechebelu, who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, accepted requests made by the union for the success of the scheduled events, and charged journalists to also ensure that there is no information crisis in the state.
He noted that awareness on IVF is still low in Anambra State and others, adding that efforts are being sustained to bring IVF technologies closer to the people, thereby helping to save marital relationships strained by childlessness.
Earlier while explaining the aim of the visit, the chairman, Anambra State Council of the NUJ, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu said they came to solicit for support from Professor Ikechebelu on the upcoming Anambra NUJ 2022 Health Week and Online/Bloggers’ Summit.
Dr Odogwu noted that some members of the society are challenged in areas of bearing children and even accessing IVF services, adding that the programmes will help to address the challenges, as well as other health issues.
Thanking Professor Ikechebelu for receiving them, the vice-chairman, Comrade Ngozi Obileri said journalists in the state will continue to live up to expectations of the masses, adding that more partnership with the NUJ, will continue to help in bettering the lots of members of the society.
Dr Odogwu was accompanied on the visit by principal officers of the state chapter of the union, as well as the chairman, UNIZIK Chapel of the NUJ, Dr Henry Duru.
