Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo says it is time for Christians to unite to defend their faith in the face of evils in the state.

Professor Soludo, who stated this at a Sunday Service to conclude the Second Session of the Sixth Synod of Anglican Diocese of Aguata, held at Saint James’ Church, Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area, while reminding the congregation that those causing mayhem in the state want to exterminate the church, stated that Anambra is a Christian State, and will never succumb to idolatry.

Governor Soludo said that following his recent declaration of state of emergency on criminal elements operating in the state, security forces are already taking the war squarely to the hideouts of those terrorizing the state.

The governor, who noted that the quest to secure Anambra State is a collective fight, urged Ndi Anambra to report activities of those, who have seen criminality in the state as a lucrative enterprise.

He assured that despite scanty resources, he will give Ndi Anambra a state to be proud of.

In his address, the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor, while reminding the governor that Ndi Anambra expect a lot from him given the current state of things in the state, assured him of the continuous support of the church to ensure that his administration succeeds.

Right Reverend Ezeofor, who prayed for the governor, his family, and Anambra State in general, said that God will lead his vision to remodel the state.

In a sermon hinged on the theme of the synod; “Divine Principles of Transformation: Leadership”, the Anglican Bishop, Diocese of Enugu North, Right Reverend Sosthenes Eze described leadership as God’s idea and initiative, but regretted that Nigeria’s leadership philosophy, which is mostly consumption-based, has continued to bring the pillars of national development down.

Bishop Eze noted that the responsibility of leadership is the ability to solve problems, adding that to have a genuine leadership in Nigeria, leaders must see themselves as servants, transform their life and be visionary.

In an interview, some delegates, including Sir John Onyeakpa and Dame Jane Onyekwelu, said that leadership encompasses responsibility in whatever position one finds him or herself, noting that to get it right, godliness must form the foundation of leadership, especially in Nigeria.

The event, attended by the Governor alongside his wife, Nonye, climaxed with cutting of Synod Cake by the Governor, Bishop and other guests.
