A life well lived really calls for celebration.
This was perhaps the reason the children and relations of the late Chief Gabriel Anikputalu-Dike Egwuonwu-Jideani recently gave him a befitting burial.
Late Chief Egwuonwu-Jideani aged eighty-two, held from Amukwa Adegbe Umueri, Anambra East Council Area, but resided in the Diaspora during his lifetime.
Correspondent Njideka Okoye covered the event and reports that people from all walks of life including, Umueri American Heritage Association in the Diaspora, Umueri Royal Cabinet led by the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Benneth Emeka, the Christian community among others were at the event to commiserate with the family.
Delivering a homily at a burial mass held in honour of the deceased at Madonna, Our Lady Secondary School field, Umueri, the Parish Priest Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Umueri, Reverend Father Augustine Okeke urged people to emulate the life style of the late Chief Egwuonwu.
Father Okeke said the deceased lived a good life and was known for his philanthrop which empowered many persons in his community.
Speaking on behalf of the family, brothers to the deceased, Messrs John and Emmanuel Egwuonwu-Jideani said their brother was a diplomat, a man of the people and a hero who believed that hard work pays and thanked all who came to commiserate with them.
The first son of the deceased, Mr Chigozie and the first daughter, Miss Uchenna Egwuonwu-Jideani said though their father is no more, his legacies will remain alive, adding that their father was an intelligent man with a good heart that contributed to the wellbeing and development of his community.
For Mr. Chinonso and Dr. Afamefuna Egwuonwu-Jideani, late Chief Gabriel was an intelligent, peaceful and loving man who strived to make everybody around him become somebody in life.
The traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Emeka said that late Chief Egwuonwu-Jideani though he lived abroad during his lifetime identified with the people of his community at all times, advising people in the diaspora to strive to identify with their people at home.
Condolences, cultural dances, masquerading and other side attractions formed the highlights of the burial ceremony.
