Anambra State Government says it will give the necessary support to local government Information Officers to acquire knowledge and skills in information and communication technology as it will go a long way in packaging the activities and programmes of the government from grassroot.

 

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Honourable Collins Nwabunwanne stated this when the Executive members of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Local Government Information Chapel, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Government House Awka.

 

Commissioner Nwabunwanne expressed government’s readiness to partner with them as according to him, Government gets first-hand information from the grassroot hence the need for digitization and creation of website where information will be gotten directly to enable information Officers from local government areas access the base and urged the Information Officers to be more dedicated and factual in their reportage, even as he promised to relay their message to the Governor.

 

Speaking earlier, the Chairman NUJ Local Government Information Chapel, Comrade Nnamdi Nweke, congratulated the Commissioner on his elevation and thanked the Governor for appointing him the local government boss and explained that they came to identify with him as image makers who maintain cordial relationship between government and community members.

 

Comrade Nweke who said that they discuss the policies and programmes of government with community leaders, traditional rulers, Presidents General and age grades among others, also reminded the Commissioner of their grassroot Newspaper that will be unveiled in September this year and solicited for his financial support to make the project a reality.

 

In her vote of thanks, the Secretary of the Chapel, Dr Ebele Okonkwo stressed that the main focus of their maiden newspaper is to ensure that what is happening in all the twenty-one local government areas of the state is well reported and documented and brought to the knowledge of the public.

 

The Treasurer of the chapel Comrade Uche Nworah and the Financial Secretary, Comrade Julie Emeh were present at the courtesy visit.
