A bill for a law to provide for the establishment ofAnambra Multi-Door Courthouse and Connected Purposes has scaled second reading in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

 

House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim, reports that the Executive bill seeks to enhance access to justice by providing alternative mechanisms to supplement litigation in the resolution of disputes through the establishment of a Multi Door Courthouse.

Presenting the bill for second reading during plenary, the Majority Leader of the House, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor, noted that the Anambra Multi-Door Courthouse and Connected Purposes bill will minimize citizen frustration and delays in justice delivery by providing standard legal framework for the fair and efficient settlement of disputes, using Multi-Door Courthouse.

 

In his remark, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Dr. Paschal Agbodike, expressed confidence that the bill, when passed and ascended to by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, will bring lasting peace in troubled communities and homes in the state.

On his part, the member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr. Peter Ibida, said the bill will help the common man to get justice by eliminating all litigations associated with the universal court.

 

In their separate speeches, the member representing Orumba North Constituency, Honourable Emeka Aforka, and his Onitsha North Two Constituency counterpart, Honourable Edward Ibuzo, maintained that the Anambra Multi-Door Courthouse and Connected Purposes bill will promote growth and effective functioning of justice system in Anambra State.

 

The Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor, read out the bill for the second time, while the lawmakers supported through voice vote.

The bill was later referred to the House committee on Judiciary to do further work on it and report back to the House.
